Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain disorder.  Fibromyalgia’s defining characteristics include widespread pain that can be in any part of the body and can move around.  Researchers believe that fibromyalgia is largely neurologically based, and that much of the pain is the result of the brain amplifying sensory signals from the nerves

More than six million people in the U.S. have fibromyalgia, making it one of the most common pain conditions.  So far, there is no lab test that can accurately diagnose fibromyalgia.  Doctors need to rule out numerous conditions with similar symptoms before making a diagnosis (diagnosis of exclusion).

Treating Fibromyalgia – Physical therapy is often used in combination with other treatments to aid in relief for people with fibromyalgia.  There are a variety of physical therapy techniques, with the initial aim of being gentle, to try and relax the body.  Followed by more active treatments to help address muscle flexibility, strength, joint movement.  If you are experiencing symptoms related to fibromyalgia come see us at Bentz Physical Therapy.
